Call for Staff Senate Nominations

Nominations are open for the UNT Staff Senate! If you’d like to help advance the university’s mission, particularly on issues that impact you and your fellow UNT staff members, then consider nominating yourself or someone else for this important role today.

Once elected, Senate members will hold a two-year term, represent a pool of staff constituents and serve as their voice to ensure that their needs are addressed. Nominations for employees from the following areas are requested:

  • Compliance & Ethics and Office of the President/Division of Planning joint seat is open
  • Academic Affairs
  • Digital Strategy & Innovation
  • Finance & Administration
  • Student Affairs
  • UBSC

Responsibilities:

  • Attend monthly General Assembly meetings on Tuesdays from 3-5pm — Learn about current initiatives that may impact staff, report on the concerns of constituents, and create legislation to improve the staff experience.
  • Communicate with constituents — Share what they have learned about the university with their colleagues and regularly seek feedback regarding the issues they want the Senate to address.
  • Serve on one Staff Senate Standing Committee — Each Senator serves on a standing committee which meets during the monthly Senate meetings: Staff Success, Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion, Bylaws and Elections, or Communications and Public Relations. More information can be found on the committee homepage.

Making a Difference with Data: Part 1

In a recent Forrester study (March 2022), nearly 80% of employees say they’re more likely to stay at a company that sufficiently trains for the data skills needed. In contrast, only 40% of these employees say their organization has provided such data skills. DAIR is pleased to announce a three part zoom-based webinar series titled: Making a Difference with Data.

Our first session is Thursday, April 21 from 3-4pm via zoom: https://unt.zoom.us/j/83167598573 (please add this info to your Outlook Calendar now)

Part 1 focuses on understanding exactly what data literacy is and why UNT needs to expect it from our teams. We specifically dig into understanding data in new ways, knowing where data resides across the institution, and how to construct the absolutely best question to ask of our data to ensure a positive outcome. By attending you will begin your journey to fully frame out your relationship with data and leverage it to improve student and institutional outcomes. UNT staff who attend all three parts will earn a certificate/badge.

Volunteers Needed

During UNT’s commencement ceremonies May 13-15 there will be some construction along North Texas Boulevard so volunteers are needed to help graduates and their guests navigate their way around campus.
There are several dates and shifts available to support all of the commencement ceremonies.

Please sign up at this page by April 28. A volunteer orientation will be held at 10 am on May 3 via Teams. For those who cannot make the orientation, follow-up information will be given.

Parking Permits 2022-23

Parking permits for UNT faculty and staff go on sale April 27. If you use payroll deduction, you will receive your permit during the summer but the first deduction will not take effect until Oct. 1, 2022. Transportation Services encourages faculty and staff to get their permits early as some of the more popular locations – including the Highland Street Garage – sell out by fall.

For faculty and staff working remotely in 2022-23 may opt not to buy a parking permit. If you plan to come to campus, however, you will need to either purchase a $5 day permit or use visitor parking options.
More information on parking permits and daily/visitor parking permit options can be found here

Stop the Bleed

Stop the Bleed training prepares individuals to recognize life-threatening injuries and equips them to know how to assist injured persons. Massive bleeding from any cause can result in death. Join UNT Emergency Management and Medical City Denton at the Coliseum (Room 047) on April 21st (Thursday) from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. to learn proper bleeding control techniques, including how to use your hands, dressings, and tourniquets to help keep someone alive until first responders can arrive. UNT employees may register for this course on Bridge here.
