Lead Custodian, University Union

How long have you worked at UNT?

35 years, since 1985. I started when UNT was North Texas State University. From memory, it was around 16,000 students back then compared to over 42,000 presently.

What is your department and what does your position entail?

I work in the University Union as a Lead Custodian. Over the years, not only do I maintain and clean the building, but also set-up, work, and tear down events across campus. I have worked and assisted at other buildings over the years. Currently with COVID-19, my team workers and I are considered essential. So, I worked during this time to ensure that all areas are sanitized and safe for not only our students, faculty and staff, but myself as well.

What do you enjoy about your position?

I enjoy the staff that I work with and engaging with the students along the way.

What is your favorite place to eat on or around campus?

I enjoy eating at Avesta in the Union and The Club at the Gateway Center. Not only is the food good, but they have cuisine that allows you to try and taste things that are unique. Also, you receive a full-course meal with the hospitality of a high-end restaurant. Victory Hall is another great place for good food.

Tell us something about yourself!

I love to fish, camp, cook and use the smoker when I can.
