October 2019 Staff Senate Spotlight

Suzan Cruz

Department Coordinator for Dining Services, UNT Dining Services

How long have you worked at UNT?

I have worked for UNT for 10 years.

What department do you work in and what does your position entail?

I work in Dining Services as the Department Coordinator. My primary responsibility is to be a reliable resource to all UNT Dining Services Departments, which includes Retail, Residential and Catering.  My staff and I maintain all administrative tasks associated with what we do: from students and meal plans, to procurement, catering events, retail sales and the most important piece – customer appreciation!

What do you like about your position?

All of it! But, if I had to pick my purpose to come to work each day, it would be the amazing UNT community of students, faculty and STAFF that I am humbled to be a part of.

What is your favorite place to eat on or around campus?

Loaded question!!  I have no favorite as I love all of our UNT locations. However, if I were tied to a chair and tortured with a feather, I would have to say, I do love that Champs “Smash Burger”!

If someone new came in and wanted to know something about UNT, what would you tell them?

10 years ago, former UNT President Bataille, a woman that did not even know my name, changed my life in ways that I could never repay her.  She allowed me to be a part of this warm, caring, and welcoming community! I would tell them “Congratulations!! Welcome to what I truly believe is the best organization on earth!”

Tell us something about you.

I hopefully will be graduating this December with a Master of Interdisciplinary Studies in Higher Education and Management and I am elated. I have made my “impossible” a reality!!
