Lisa Cuevas
Serials and Continuing Resources Specialist, University Libraries in Collection Development
How long have you worked at UNT?
I've worked full-time at UNT since 2003, but I started as a student assistant in 2000. I've been here for a long time!
What department do you work in, what is your title, what does your position entail?
I work for the University Libraries in Collection Development as the Serials & Continuing Resources Specialist. I work with vendors and other "behind-the-scenes" staff and student assistants. I order, receive, catalog, and pay for material purchased by the UNT Libraries.
What do you like about your position?
I like the problem-solving aspect of my job. Serials are rarely cut and dry — there are always unexpected changes associated with them. It gives me a sense of accomplishment when I can solve problems.
What is your favorite place to eat on or around campus?
I love Andaman Thai Restaurant on Hickory Street! My favorite item on their menu is the steamed pork dumplings. Yum!
If someone new came in and wanted to know something that no one else at UNT would know, what would you tell them?
I would tell them, if you have a question, ask the staff at the library. If they do not know the answer, they will surely find out!
Tell us something about yourself.
I never expected to make Denton my home. I came here 20 years ago for school and never left. I've met and worked with a lot of amazing people. I've grown to love this city. I can't wait to attend many of the great fesitvals that we have year-round again, like the Arts and Jazz, Day of the Dead and the Lighting of the Square festivals. They are so much fun!
