June Staff Senate Spotlight

Natalie Bernard

Academic Counselor, Graduate Programs,
G. Brint Ryan College of Business

How long have you worked at UNT?

I have worked for UNT for 6 years!

What department do your work in and what does your position entail?

I work in the G. Brint Ryan College of Business Graduate Programs Office. I am an Academic Counselor who wears multiple hats. Specifically, I help manage admissions, orientation, and advising for all graduate students in the Ryan College of Business. I meet the student as a prospect and I work with them all the way up to graduation.

What do you like about your position?

I love working with graduate students, they are a distinct student population when compared to undergraduates. Most of my students are working professionals who also carry on external responsibilities. This group is also more personal, so during their time at UNT I learn more about them such as hobbies, career goals, and family. It brings me joy to see my students graduate knowing everything they have had to juggle while completing their degree program.

What is your favorite place to eat on or around campus?

Can't go wrong with Crooked Crust!

If someone new came in and wanted to know something that no one else at UNT would know, what would you tell them?

People probably know this, but did you know UNT has changed its name 7 times since its establishment in 1890? It is pretty cool to see how our institution has morphed and changed over the years. Just recently we got the Hispanic Serving Institution (HIS) designation. That is awesome.

Tell us something about you.

I am a doctoral student in the UNT Higher Education program. I am currently in dissertation, and if I can write fast enough I might be done in the next year.
