Staff Senate Nominee Checklist

I Nominated Myself

  1. If you do not yet have supervisor approval on file, please send that form to them at your earliest convenience. We cannot add you to the ballot without having this on file. The form is available on the Elections homepage or directly here: Supervisor Approval Form. You may also want to direct them to the Membership and Service Details section of the Elections homepage, as it outlines what sort of experiences you will get with the Senate and provides a rough expectation of the time commitment.
  2. A current Staff Senator will confirm that you meet the year of service and benefits eligibility requirements to serve, so you do not need to do anything regarding that component of your application unless we reach-out with next steps.
  3. If you did not submit your ballot profile in your nomination form, please email that to StaffSenateElections@unt.edu at least two business days before the election goes live. If you did submit a ballot profile but have changes, you can review what we have on file by checking the submission details section of the confirmation email you received immediately upon submitting your nomination.
  4. The election period will be announced in the Staff Senate newsletter and UNT Today. Additionally, all candidates on the ballot will be informed when it goes live on our website.

I Was Nominated by Someone Else

  1. Congratulations! If you know you would like to proceed with this nomination, move on to the next step! If you are unsure, we recommend reviewing the Staff Senate website to learn more about our organization and reaching out with any questions. If you know you would like to decline the nomination, please email StaffSenateElections@unt.edu to do so.
  2. Supervisors must approve that we serve, so please send that form to them at your earliest convenience.
  3. A current Staff Senator will confirm that you meet the year of service and benefits eligibility requirements to serve, so we need you to reply to the notification email you received confirming that your listed department and job title correct. Additionally, we need you to provide your 8 digit EMPLID.
  4. Because there is not a traditional campaigning structure for our elections, candidates include ballot profile in your nomination form so voters know more about you. Details about what you may want to include can be found below. When you've completed it, please email it to StaffSenateElections@unt.edu at least two business days before the election goes live.
  5. The election period will be announced in the Staff Senate newsletter and UNT Today. Additionally, all candidates on the ballot will be informed when it goes live on our website.

Ballot Profile Details

On the ballot, your name, title, and department will be automatically included. However, we give candidates the opportunity to share additional information about themselves, why they want to be a Senator, and what experience they have so that voters can make an informed choice. Suggested information to consider is below. These questions are only meant to serve as a guide and DO NOT all have to be answered. You are also welcome to include any additional information you would like.

  • Why are you nominating yourself/did you accept your nomination to be on the Staff Senate?
  • How will your work experience benefit the Senate and your constituents?
  • How might it be beneficial to the division for a representative from this department to serve?
  • What aspects of the UNT community and/or staff experience do you want to contribute to or improve?
  • How you plan to connect with your constituents?
