"They Don't Sing Like They Used To" Negro Soldier's Resistance to Jim Crow in 1898 Presentation

By the turn of the twentieth century, Negro troops began to resist Jim Crow laws in an organized way. While some historians have mentioned these racially motivated disturbances, many have failed to seriously analyze and assess these clashes, which has led to the neglect of an important source of Black American resistance to racial discrimination in the post Reconstruction era. The purpose of this presentation is to address that failure. Join Dr. Earl Levingston, interim director of Diversity & Inclusion, for this Lunch & Learn presentation during Black History Month by signing up on UNT Bridge. This in person presentation is accepted as Anti-Bias & Cultural Awareness program credit. https://idea.unt.edu/event/they-dont-sing-they-used.

North Texas Boulevard construction to begin

The city is expected to start construction along North Texas Boulevard on Monday, Feb. 14, for one of several projects that will last at least through spring 2022. The first project will be the installation of a new sewer main in one-block phases along North Texas Boulevard between Chestnut and Hickory. This work will reduce North Texas Boulevard to two lanes of bi-directional traffic. The work should not affect any wastewater services of nearby buildings. In a similar time frame, there will be utility installation work along Stella Street between North Texas Boulevard and Bonnie Brae. Following that utility work, roadway construction will completely close Stella Street beginning in early March. Further work that is part of the North Texas Boulevard construction project will result in other lane closures throughout the semester but two lanes will always remain open for traffic to flow in each direction.
